FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Below are some of the most frequently asked question that I receive:

How hard is CRNA school?

Yes, school is difficult. I had to study long hours and put in a lot of work to be successful in school. School can be difficult, but definitely worth doing if that is the occupation that you choose.

What is a CRNA?

CRNAs are advanced practice nurses that administer anesthesia for various surgical and medical procedures.

Where do CRNAs work?

CRNAs work in hospitals, surgical centers, dentist offices, and medical facilities throughout the world. They also serve in the military.

What kind of student is a nurse anesthesia school looking for?

Schools look at your accomplishments in school and out. Volunteer work, awards, GPA, and publishing articles and books are just a few things that they look at. The more that sets you apart from other applicants the better the chance you may have. Grades and GRE scores are reviewed closely. Schools want you to not only excel in school but also flourish. Think about what separates you from the crowd.

What kind of cases will I do in school?

In school you will have a set curriculum with various cases that will give you a well rounded experience in Anesthesia.

What school did you go to?

I went to Wolford College which is Keiser University now in beautiful Naples, Florida

Are you happy that you went to CRNA School?

I most certainly am. I love being a CRNA. It is a great job.

How long was CRNA school?

28 months and I graduated with my Masters. Most schools now are PhD programs requiring the student to attend school for 36 months.

My grades are not great. Do you think that I can get into a school?

Take the time and do the research. Look at what the school(s) requirements are. You may have to retake some classes to raise your GPA.

How much do CRNAs make?

I went to an elementary school for Career Day and this was one of the most popular questions? I think adults want to know also but children have no shame in asking.

That answer ranges widely depending on what you do in anesthesia. Do you work calls, are you independent, 1099, how many hours do you work, are you per diem? The questions go on and on. Look online to gauge what CRNAs make in your area but remember there are numerous factors that affect salary.

Can I work in school?

No. Schools want you to concentrate on studying and learning anesthesia. CRNA school is your full time job.

I don’t want to travel to go to CRNA school?

It definitely depends on what you want. Because this is your journey. I traveled to Florida to go to school and so did most of my class. Once I got admitted into anesthesia school I made my mind up that I would move it need be. There are over 100 CRNA schools throughout the US and PR. Not every state has a school and Pennsylvania and Florida has the most schools at this time. I did not want to wait years trying to get into a school that was close to my home when I could get into a school now. It’s completely up to the applicant. You may get into the school of your choice the first time. You never know until you try.

Money is an issue? How can I afford school?

Loans, finance yourself, joining the military are three ways to finance your education. Do your research. Start saving money as soon as possible, and get out of debt. The more money you have before school starts the better.

I’m a single parent. Am I able to succeed in school?

Yes. You will definitely need help if your kid(s) are young. You will be doing long hours at school, clinicals and studying. You will not have the time to spend with them.
